The 3rd graders learned about color mixing, Roy G. Biv, and mixing paint. I loved the Ohhh's and Ahhh's that they gave as they learned how to mix primary colors together to get secondary colors. Have I mentioned how much I love my job???

After they painted a rainbow from the colors that they mixed, they began to design what I like to call "Color Wheel Aliens." They learned how to design and cut out the aliens- much like the old fashioned paper dolls. After gluing the aliens to a splatter painted "deep space" background, they let loose! This is where the fun really happened. They were given lots of collage materials- colored and patterned paper, feathers, pipe cleaners, puff balls... Their goal was to design their aliens in a way that utilized collaged materials and combined 2D and 3D materials.

After their aliens were aptly decked out, students then wrote a short biography about their aliens. The premise was that these aliens had suddenly crash landed on Earth and it was their first day at Manzanita. What were their names? Where where they from? How did they crash? What other zany adventures did they experience at school??

These stories have been wonderful! I had sooooo much fun reading them!

The result was incredible!! Every student was successful and it is hard to pick my favorite! I am so impressed with the creativity and humor that each student brought to this lesson. Enjoy!!!
